Team Interstate‘s Kyle Busch just couldn’t get anything to go his way during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Toyota/Save Mart 350k on Sunday at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway.

Busch, the driver of the No. 18 M&M’s/Interstate Batteries Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing, got spun on two separate occasions and also was slowed by a pit road speeding penalty. The end result was a long, disappointing day and a 35th-place finish.

“We got spun by the 42 (Juan Pablo Montoya), rallied from that, got the pit road speeding penalty; we came back from that,” Busch said. “Then the 99 (Carl Edwards) got into us, and there was just too much damage for us to pass anyone, so I just tried to get it to the finish. It just wasn’t our day.”

Busch’s Team Interstate companions – Matt Kenseth, driver of the No. 20 Toyota Camry, and Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 11 Toyota Camry – finished 19th and 23rd, respectively.

Martin Truex Jr. won the race to score his second career Sprint Cup victory.
