Team Interstate‘s Kyle Busch was in position to complete his second career Bristol sweep – winning the Truck, Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series events in the same weekend.

But as the classic Meat Loaf song goes, “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad” – especially when your teammate picks up the third. Matt Kenseth won the Sprint Cup race at Bristol, his fifth of the season and 29th in his career.

Kyle won the Camping World Truck Series race on Wednesday night and followed that up with a victory in Friday night’s Nationwide Series race. He had his work cut out for him in Saturday night’s Sprint Cup race as he had to start from the rear of the field after crashing during qualifying.

A fast No. 18 Toyota Camry allowed Kyle to muscle his way into the top-20 within the first 80 circuits around the half-mile bullring. Not long after completing the 100th lap around Bristol among the top-15, Kyle got loose in traffic and was hit from behind by Joey Logano. The push was enough to send the Doublemint Toyota into the wall, causing damage to the splitter and misaligning the toe.

“The car wasn’t perfect early, but we were fast and could actually pass people,” Busch said. “The car just wasn’t the same after the accident. We couldn’t pass and just didn’t have any speed.”

Kyle settled for an 11th-place finish. His teammate, Matt Kenseth, won the Irwin Tools night Race, his third at Bristol. Their other teammate, Denny Hamlin, finished 28th after a late accident.
