Auto Club 400
Auto Club Speedway | Fontana, CA
March 24, 2013
Mission 18 accomplished. Kyle Busch dominated the Auto Club 400 in Fontana, Calif., Sunday afternoon and won the race on a wild, last-lap pass as then-leaders Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin battled hard for position. Kyle’s victory was the first Sprint Cup win at Fontana for Joe Gibbs Racing and for manufacturer Toyota at its hometown track.
“Man, feels so good to finally win with our Interstate Batteries Camry,” said Busch, who recorded his 25th career Sprint Cup victory and second win at Fontana. “Finally, we get a win for Joe (Gibbs, owner) and for Norm Miller (chairman, Interstate Batteries) and all of Interstate Batteries dealers and distributors. I drove my butt off right there at the end.”

Busch led seven times for a race-high 125 laps. Team Interstate colleague Matt Kenseth finished seventh. Hamlin and former teammate Logano wrecked on the last lap, sending Hamlin’s car hard into the inside wall. Hamlin was credited with a 25th-place finish and was taken to a nearby hospital for observation after complaining of back pain after the crash.
